How Do Draught/Draft Beer Systems Work - Beer Taps Explained
A bar serving a cool beer from the tap (faucet) has, often in the cellar, underneath the bar, or in another room, a set up that looks a bit like this. Sometimes the entire setup fits within what's called a kegerator, or parts of it are cooled (not frozen) to make sure the beer you're being served is at an optimal temperature.
To set up a draught beer system there are a couple of variables to keep in mind: The distance your beer has to travel from the keg to the tap, the type of beer you're serving, the beer's ideal serving temperature and what type of coupler the keg it will be delivered in is fitted with.
Depending on local laws beer lines can be made from stainles steel, copper or food-grade PVC. Either way, these need to be cleaned regularly.
Couplers allow gas to enter the keg while, at the same time, allow beer to flow up and out of it. The spear, inside the keg, runs down to the bottom as far as it can, in order to enable as much beer as possible to flow out of the keg.
Many beers (such as pilsners) require carbonation. That is why CO2 is often used. Other beers, such as dry stouts, use nitrogen instead. Nitrogen, however, is used under higher pressures. Therefor a nitrogenized beer setup requires nitrogen-specific regulators and possibly other hardware.
In the UK beer engines and flat, "real" ales are more popular. Here the kegs are called casks and no gasses are used. Instead, the ale casks are aired and the warm beer is pumped, manually, using the beer engine. How, exactly, is a great topic for another video.

Understanding the Basics of Glycol Chillers & Power Packs
So, I see you are curious about glycol beer line chillers and glycol power packs. In this video, Rapids beer expert Ben discusses the basics of long draw beer systems and glycol coolers with us.
A glycol power pack is a piece of refrigeration equipment that cools the glycol and circulates it through trunkline along with your beer lines to your remote beer tower keeping the beer cold all along the way.
Ben and Paul go over the basic components of the Glycol chiller systems, and what to look for when making a purchase to ensure you have a unit big enough to accommodate your long draw needs.
You will learn how a commercial glycol beer chiller system works. In the video, we open up the Beer Chiller and take a look under the hood. We will show you the compressor, the glycol tank and how the refrigerant works to chill the glycol, which in turn works to keep your beer or beverage cold as it makes the trip from the cooler to the faucet.
We also take a look at the pump for the glycol, where and how the trunk line with the beer and glycol exit the chiller and how the glycol returns back to the chiller to get cooled once more. You will also learn what to consider when determing your beer chiller size and Trunk Line Run size needs. This video about long draw beer chillers will help you decide and determine what to look for when purchasing a commercial Power Pack Beer Chiller System.

Guinness on Tap
Guinness is world famous, and for good reason: it’s creamy and rich; it has a delightful Irish pedigree; and, at just 125 calories per 12-ounce serving, it’s relatively low calories when compared to most non-light beers.
Guinness on draught is especially delicious. Thankfully, all you need to dispense a keg of Guinness (or any stout) at home is a stout system.
You have a couple of options to get the Guinness flowing: you can either purchase a dedicated Guinness Draught Kegerator or you can convert an existing draft dispensing system, which can be switched back to standard dispensing whenever you like.
The draft beer equipment that you already have and your budget will determine which route you choose to get Guinness on tap at home. Regardless of the option you choose, there are three basic differences between a standard draft beer system and a stout system that you’ll want to keep in mind:
1. The Type of Gas Used
2. The Keg Coupler
3. The Faucet

Too Much Beer Foam From Keg
http://brewbeeranddrinkit.com/youtube/ - Too much beer foam from keg
Ever feel you are pouring 90% foam and 10% beer out of a keg?... I never had this problem with my kegerator, but as soon as I took my keg to parties with an attachment I poured nothing but foam....
Well I finally figured it out....
When I pour beer from my kegerator, I have a constant source of CO2 pumping gas into my keg as I dispense beer.... but with an attachment that uses paintball gun sized CO2 cartridges, you don't get the same pressure going into your keg.... and the result of that is foamy beer...
Balancing a system at this point is useless... you are not putting constant pressure... To fix this what you need to do is release the pressure in the keg until you have only enough to push the beer out.... the way I did it in the video was to release all the pressure and then pump back only what I need...
I'm sure with time I'll get good at releasing only the needed amount and not worry about pumping any more back in...

3. The Faucet

Glycol Chillers and Power Packs
-
Understanding the Basics of Glycol Chillers & Power Packs

Grainfather Glycol Chiller Instructional Video
Control your fermentation temperature accurately, every time!
Temperature control is one of the most crucial elements for producing a good quality beer. It needs to be regulated and stable throughout the whole fermentation process to ensure the yeast doesn't get stressed and ferments correctly to get the right flavour profile.
With the ability to individually power and control the temperature of up to four Grainfather Conical Fermenters, each with their own fermenting schedules, the Grainfather Glycol Chiller is the perfect addition to ensure superior fermenting results.
With a sleek and compact design, that still accommodates our full array of features, the Glycol Chiller maintains the Grainfather’s principle of providing quality home brewing equipment, that deliver’s craft brewery like results, on a small footprint.
With the addition of the Glycol Chiller, your system is operating at the ultimate level and you are even able to cold crash and lager down to 4°C (39°F). The Glycol Chiller connects to a hidden cooling sleeve, located in between the two stainless steel walls of the Conical Fermenter. Your desired temperature is dialed into the digital temperature controller on the Conical Fermenter, the liquid then travels through this sleeve, cooling the stainless steel which in turn cools the beer in the fermenter. The cooling sleeve never comes into contact with the beer, is completely concealed and does not need cleaning or sanitising - a true innovation for a fermenter on this scale.
Features:
•Allows you to cold crash 23 L (6 US Gal) of wort to as low as 4-6ºC (39-43°F). Minimum temperature will vary based on external factors such as ambient room temperature, the number of fermenters connected and other environmental conditions.
•Cools and powers up to 4 Conical Fermenters at different temperatures and fermenting schedules.
Find out how to use the Grainfather Glycol Chiller. -
Ss Brewtech 1/3 HP Glycol Chiller
Introducing our new 1/3 HP 2300 BTU/Hr glycol chiller, which will maintain lager temps and enable crash cooling for up to 4 vessels even in relatively high ambient temperatures. We designed the chiller to integrate seamlessly with our FTSs kits to provide a complete temperature control system. Since each FTSs kit includes its own dedicated temperature controller, pump, and tubing, each vessel is connected to the glycol chiller with its own independent loop. Which offers the ability to ferment at ale temps in one vessel, or maintain precise serve or crash cooling temps in another vessel, such as our new line of Brite Tanks. Offering both flexibility and expandability for your home brewery. The glycol chiller has a small footprint, and includes free shipping. -
